Didn't shutdown Ubuntu KVM properly - won't launch again
I shut down my RHEL6 laptop without first shutting down all of my KVM sessions. Now the Ubuntu 12.04 one won't launch - a blank window just hangs there. Is there anything I can do? Is there some sort of snapshot capability where I can save the state as a backup in case I lose everything?

Did you try to go to console(ctrl+alt+F(1-6))? From the console you might be able to figure out what is going on.
Now if you can't even get there then the FS is probably corrupted. You might have to reinstall that virtual machine.

I'll try that, thanks. It's peculiar, but it keeps happening to every Ubuntu VM I make. I've been cloning them so I always have a backup...

Which type of partitions/file system are you using? Maybe with a more robust one the problem might go away.
