converting .ova linux OS to .iso

hi there , im one of the whonix anonymous OS fans. so what i want to ask:-

whonix is build on debian (similarly to TAIL from TOR) the difference is, whonix is .ova not .iso ; which mean i cant run it from a dvd to install it or live dvd.

the question:- is there anyway to make .ova image to run from dvd ? like converting this .ova to .iso or so?

whonix OS link:-

i appreciate any suggestions and answer

thnx :)

An OVA file is an exported archive of whatever a virtual machine comprises of (as in configuration and disks) and an ISO is a (usually El-Torito conforming) external bootable medium. Two very different things. To create a Live CD from an installed system you could use Remastersys or equivalent. Understand you using that or any other tool doesn't guarantee the end result will be either bootable or function as the Whonix developers intended it should.

There are separate versions of remastersys for Debian/Ubuntu so that might be worth trying. Development stopped about two years ago but I've read posts from people who have managed to get it working on more recent systems such as Ubuntu 14.04. Haven't tried it on newer systems myself so I don't know how it would work. Good luck.
