Cent OS 5.3 won't install in Virtual Box 4.0.4.0.8

I apologize if I'm duplicating a thread, I thought I posted this last night and cant find it now. I have a piece of software that requires RHEL 5.3 (or Cent OS 5.3). I'd like to install in Virtual Box but both DVD's hang in the same spot when installing.

Disks check out ok. uname -r returns - 2.6.34.8-68.fc13.i686, machine is 3.3 gig dual core 6 gigs memory running Fedora 13. DKMS is installed already.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Gary

.....were you going to mention where in the install process it hangs?

After I hit enter for a graphical install I get one screen or so of text that scrolls by and it hangs. Do you need to know the last thing it shows? NET: Registered protocol family 2. BTW, I have tried text mode install and noprobe - same results.

CentOX in virtualbox 4.04

Have you tried installing from the ISO instead of using the physical DVD?

I have often found installing directly from the ISO, where possible, faster and less error prone.

@wpeckham - I tried making the CentOS iso my cd/dvd device in Virtual box but it stops in exactly the same place. I could type the data that scrolls by on the screen in a reply if it would be helpful....

Cannot install into virtualbox?

Have you verified that the ISO is good?
-- installed it elsewhere, or
-- verified the checksum/CRC

The only time I had an issue that sounded like this, it was fixed by downloading another copy of the ISO. Turned out the one I had was corrupted slightly.

gelam ,I take it you are aware that centos 5.3 is UNSUPPORTED .

It hit it's End of Life on 2009-10-21

CentOS 5.6 is the current

also a note of warning
Fedora 15 will be out any day ,so in 30 days fedora 13 will hit IT'S end of life also

time to upgrade fedora 13 to 14 or 15 .

As Dorothy once said ... "Oh my, everyone comes and goes so quickly, here"

FYI, I'm running an install of Centos 5.3 under qemu-kvm just to see if ... and I got "Congratulations, the installation is complete."

@wpeckham - It turns out I just had to turn on I/O APIC option under system tab in Virtual Box. It is off by default (apparently) based on the settings of my other VM's. So now everything is fine but I appreciate the help.

@JohnVV - Appreciate your concern but if you read the original post this is for a piece of access control software that the equipment manufacturer says requires version 5.3 and NO later. Not my call.........

If management uses "for the tech support" as a justification for choosing particular proprietary applications that have these limitations, be sure you are ready to point out "this confines us to unsupported versions of the OS".
