Accessing the files and folders in XP as guest on VMware on Linux as host
 

Hi, I was having 4 partitions of different sizes on my Dell Inspiron, with XP installed on one of them. Now I have removed XP and installed Fedora12 on same partition, without disturbing the others. The FC12 is working fine and the other partitions are also accessible in FC12. Now, I have installed XP as guest OS on VMware in FC12. But I am not able to access (cut, copy & paste) from the Linux partition as well as other three partitions of my HDD. My internet is working fine in guest (XP) OS. I can share CD-ROM and pendrive also. Kindly hell me out.

copy and paste is clearly nothing whatsoever to do with partition layouts. If you want to copy and paste between a host and a vm then you'd need a client to view the vm console or other interface which supports this. I think rdesktop will, not sure though. Assuming it does, just connect to it over a network connection. As for files and folders then that's an issue that vmware needs to handle to directly share devices through the web interface on VMWare Server, assuming that's what you're using. Again though you can easily use a samba share to conect them over the internal network on the machine.

I'm not exactly sure what the question is, even though I've read the post a couple of times. I'm also not sure how rdesktop or any other remote control software would figure into this.

VMware Workstation (and, I think, Player) support cut and paste between host and client. I do it all the time. Beyond that, setting up a virtual network and using Samba works just fine for accessing various shares from various locations.

I presume that OP is saying he can't get his client to access shares that are available on the host, but OP hasn't specified which version of VMware and what actions have been attempted to make it work.
