I have recently started a LUG at my college and am now looking for topics that would draw people into the group. Things what would look good on a flier. What do you all do for your LUG meetings? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks. Maybe this could be a running list.
Ah I see. Here in the beginning I have a guy that is doing "Shell Secrets" in which he goes over some of the common and less common shell comands. In this he usaly does abit about where the cam from and why they are usefull.
As soon as I get more people I will most defintly take their ideas and turn them into topics, but the problem at teh moment is we have basicly no one who is new at linux in our group. All our members are there to help the newer ones and are willing to do topics a presentations. (Am I lucky or what) So I am looking for something to really draw people in. The way I see it is if they see how much fun we have one time then they will come back and get more involved.
In the class room that we have been given there is a mounted project conected to a computer with dual boot xp and mandrake. We also have the use of a computer lab of about 30 computers all dual boot xp and mandrake. I plan on doing a install fest/LAN game after we discues some of the basics about linux. (If there is anyone who needs it).
Let me ask you this. Do all your topics gear towards noobs? I my self used to go to a LUG out of town (it closes which is why I started this one) And one of the problems they had was they had a big devide of expert users and noobs. So eather the noobs had no idea what was going on or the experts where bored out of their mind. HAve you run into this yet? Or have you taken messures to prevent it?
