zypper not working

Hello All,

I would like to add a new local repository of SLES 10 SP4 on my System.
But zypper gives Problems. Here is what I tried so far,

#zypper ar /some/local/dir local {I have copied all the SLES10 RPMs inside this dir}
Unknown command 'ar'.

zypper sa /usr/repo/sp4 local
URL is invalid.
Url scheme is a required component

Is there anything I am missing?
Please suggest.

Thanx.

SLED 10 uses an old version of zypper. I think it needs to be
Code:
zypper sa file://usr/repo/sp4 local

Thanks for the reply. But it does not work.

#zypper sa file://usr/repo/sp4 local
Hostname not allowed in the Url: file://usr/repo/sp4

Then I tried with dir as sp4 is a Directory Name.

# zypper sa dir:///usr/repo/sp4 local

Determining dir:///usr/repo/sp4 source type...
.. not YUM
.. not YaST
Unknown source type for dir:///usr/repo/sp4

# zypper sl

Your local repo is a plain cache repo (source) type. With later versions of zypper you can specify type with -t option (yast2, rpm-md, plaindir), but you might need to consult the man page for appropriate options.

FWIW, this is an openSUSE reference, but might help with generating a YaST source if desired

As I thought.
