zsnes + sdl

My issue is that everytime I try to play a game on Zsnes, after a while the program seems to segfault with this error:

Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

I've tried re-installing zsnes and sdl. i've also tried different versions of zsnes to see if there was an issue with just zsnes and i'm have no luck trying to figure out why this is happening. i've never had this happen before. by the way, i'm using debian as a distro. i'm wondering if it could my video card? it's an old one, an ATI Mach64. if someone could figure this out, i'd be in debt to them. i've also tried to strace zsnes and nothing really shows up. so i'm basically clueless at this point. thanks.

I didnt know they made a Zsnes for Linux...interesting...got any links? I might be able to help you out if I tinker with it a bit.

I works fine for me, what distribution are you using, it might have something to do with that.

notstrider 07-05-2005 07:29 PM

Debian/testing.. it's either that or could it have something to do with my video card? It's an ATI Mach64..

Do you wanna try installing SNES9x and see if that works? I mean, if it does it's just about as good, and you won't have to worry about fixing anything. If it fails as well, it might give you a better clue as to what the underlying cause is.

notstrider 07-07-2005 04:37 PM

tried that and still had no luck. this is driving me insane, just trying to actually pinpoint the problem. it only seems to happen know when i try to save/load a game.

springshades 07-07-2005 07:19 PM

Only on save/load? You've probably tried this but what about permissions on the folder it saves to.

notstrider 07-07-2005 08:10 PM

hrm, actually i haven't thought about that. should the folder be set to a certain permission?

springshades 07-07-2005 10:28 PM

The only thing that I was thinking was that it has to be written to. If you installed the program as root it probably shouldn't matter, but if you installed it as a user... I dont know, maybe it could be a problem. Both of those programs worked straight away for me, so I'm pretty clueless.

notstrider 07-08-2005 01:10 AM

yeah, i installed it as root.. i think it might be an issue with the video driver. i mean, i do have an old video card from 1997 or so. hehe. so i'm going to drive to install the utah-glx drivers for the ATI Mach64. hopefully this will work.
