yum updating problem

Hi, I'm a new linux user and managed to mess up my system already, I think.

I updated the linux core on it's own, then went to use 'yum update' to update my entire system, although I now get the following error from yum:

Downloading Packages:
Running Transaction Test
Finished Transaction Test
Transaction Check Error: package kernel-2.6.13-1.1526_FC4 (which is newer than kernel-2.6.12-1.1447_FC4) is already installed

Does anyone know how I can get around this and get my system updated?

Can you boot under your old kernel?

If your using a bootloader at some stage in the boot you can press enter to choose which kernel to boot from. Boot to a good one and yum update.

Nope, I tried logging in under the old kernel, but yum still detects that it's installed.

Is there any way to remove a single instance of the core do the update then put it back again?
