yum-update wont stop running, but wont do anything!?

Ok, a few days ago I did a mad Add/Remove (add!) on my new Fedora 8 system. Ummm... all Educational, Entertainment/Game, most of the entire development section...

anyways...

Hard disk filled up before the install could commence.

I have since partitioned new space and transferred mount of /var/cache/yum/Fedora/packages over to a sizable partition... but...

whenever I try to run the Add/Remove it complains that another process has the update locked!

I've topped and killed yum-updated all over and over... but it just auto restarts and I dont know where in the config files and/or menus this process is being initiated. I also tried leaving my system on the net all night last night with plenty of space on the hard drive, hoping it would resolve itself... but no luck.

Nothing shows up in the System Notifications area... even after numerous reboots and long periods of idle time.

Suggestions?

thx
kc

System->Administration->Services (root password): uncheck yum-updatesd and stop it.

You SHOULD be able to then do a:

yum clean all

and start again.

Good Luck

Found what you suggested... but its not working. I tried to run yum clean all and got the same error message. Top shows the yum-updatesd-he running and I can kill the process all day long and it wont change anything.

Is there a more industrial strength kill?

Is there a f@#$ing 'murder' command?

LOL

thx,
kc
