YUM/RPM commands giving errors

i get this

rpm: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

when i try to do rpm -qa | grep whatever

and when i try to yum i get

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/yum", line 6, in ?
import yummain
File "/usr/share/yum-cli/", line 23, in ?
import yum
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/yum/", line 21, in ?
import rpm
ImportError: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Any thoughts?

Well, sometimes when I've had to force an rpm package rpm will freeze up the next time I try to do anything with it. To fix it, I type "rpm --rebuilddb" which according to the man page rebuilds the rpm database from headers. That does the trick for me. Sometimes even that command will freeze, so I will reboot and then it will work. It might help your problem.

Not sure about the yum stuff.
