Unhappy "yum lock" by another application :PackageKit.

I was trying to search for some packages using yum when it showed that yum is locked by PackageKit.

What is this? Is there any way to avoid this delay?

I read somewhere that yum and packagekit are connected in some sort of way. Will disabling packagekit affect the functionality of yum in any way?

and Thanks

No. I think that packagekit is just checking for updates. You can do that yourself.
