Yum irresponsive

Hi All ,

I am trying to search & install a php pkg for my programmer , my server runs a centos 5.2 . While doing the search , yum is not returning any results..it just like hangs there and stops after a ctrl-c interrupt. I have tried clearing the cache , yum clean all and checked the if the repo is fine.

Having done all these , yet yum behaves the same. Kindly advise. Appreciate much. Thanks

What are you typing on the CLI? v5 should be good until 2017.

you will have all kinds of mostly unsolvable PROBLEMS with CentOS 5.2
it is NINE 9 versions and 6 YEARS out of date
cent ONLY supports the current minor version

and for the old legacy hardware/software OS that is CentOS 5.11 ( centOS 7.1 is current)

6 years ago the 5.2 software was moved to the historical Archive "The Vault"
it is also 6 years OUT OF DATE
-- do not use ---

upgrade to the current in the older legacy support OS 5.11
then you will be able to install software

Code:
su -
yum --releasever=5.11 upgrade
but do a FULL SYSTEM BACK UP FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!
skipping 9 versions there is NO!!! guarantee it will work after the upgrade

also BE WARNED!!!!
cent locked the php versions when 5.0 came out
so the version of php in 5.11 will BE THE same as in the 2007 release of 5.0

all the major versions of software in cent5 was LOCKED back in 2007
now there have been SECURITY fixes backported
but the software WILL BE OLD versions

HI John VV & lazydog ,

I have finally solved the issue - turns out to be the yum is trying to search a dead epel repo. i have removed the epel and connect to my local repo and solved the issue. Thank you very much for the advice. Will seriously consider the advise given. Thanks again!
