yum GUI complaining about dependencies but not resolving them !

I am running fedora8 and trying to install fusion-icon.
The package shows up and when I try to apply the installation, it fails while checking for dependency. The details are as under:-
Quote:
Missing Dependency: mono(glade-sharp) = 2.10.0.0 is needed by package banshee
Missing Dependency: mono(gtk-sharp) = 2.10.0.0 is needed by package banshee
Missing Dependency: mono(glib-sharp) = 2.10.0.0 is needed by package banshee
Missing Dependency: mono(gnome-vfs-sharp) = 2.16.0.0 is needed by package banshee
Missing Dependency: libgnutls.so.13 is needed by package vlc-core
Missing Dependency: mono(gconf-sharp) = 2.16.0.0 is needed by package banshee
Missing Dependency: mono(gdk-sharp) = 2.10.0.0 is needed by package banshee
Missing Dependency: libgnutls.so.13(GNUTLS_1_3) is needed by package vlc-core
Missing Dependency: libgnome-desktop-2.so.7 is needed by package gnome-compiz-manager
Missing Dependency: mono(gnome-sharp) = 2.16.0.0 is needed by package banshee
Missing Dependency: mono(pango-sharp) = 2.10.0.0 is needed by package banshee
could someone help me out. Isn't yum suppose to resolve and install the dependencies. And I never asked it to update anything for banshee or vlc ! So why these messages.
Any clue could help me a lot
thanks

most of the time, either its a version mis-match, or package non-availability.

try to think in these two directions. you can do like this.

note down the packages reported to be missing. check whether any of versions are available on your system. try to get the versions reported.

hope this helps.

Well..figured that out ! Actually, I had added the updates repository by mistake to the yum gui. So it is checking for all that updates to all the things that are installed on my system.

Do you mean that the packages are not in the repository list added by me or the version of the availabel packages in the repository do not match the packages which are needed by the dependency ? Well if that is what it is, then I think I have understood.
In that case is there any up to date repository out there, which will not have such problems with the well known packages atleast?
thanks

yeah. you are right. and for repositories: AFAIK, 'livna' is almost always the one i depend upon. and you can also try freshrpms, rpmbone etc.,( i never tried them).

pl update if you come to know any better repo's.
