yum grouplist setup on custom repo

just looking for a yum clarification that i haven't been able to find in the docco.

i have created a local repo with all the rpms from my linux discs (RHEL5), and run createrepo to generate the repodata. yum works for searches and single/pattern matched installs, but can't get any of the groups-based commands working. is there a way to generate the groups data through the createrepo command, or another app? if not, where can i get groups repodata for RHEL rpms?

cheers

When you have created the metadata, it probably missed the group information (or maybe it does not create group metadata by default). You can copy the repodata from the installation disc: look for comps-something.xml files (for example <disc-mount-point>/Client/repodata/comps-rhel5-client-core.xml. Then you need to recreate the repodata with option -g.

Here is an excerpt from the createrepo manual page:
Quote:
Here is an example of a repository with a groups file. Note that the groups file should be in the same directory as the rpm packages (i.e. /path/to/rpms/comps.xml).

createrepo -g comps.xml /path/to/rpms
