yum against APT
I am comparing all the Linux Distributions.
I dont look at the "original" distributions because they are strange, they have few support, they have strange package manager etc. etc. They may be good anyway. I am trying to focuse on the most available distribs, and the best of them. I can see 2 main package managers : -yum remplaced the old and not good RPM (Red Hat). -APT comes from Debian. Which one do you think is best ? I have a preference for APT because Debian is a very high quality distribution and very close to the GNU/GPL spirit. What do you think ? |
Sorry I should have posted this in the Distributions Forum. Sorry.

For me, they work equally well. I prefer apt and use synaptic (which by the way, also works on rpm based distros), but its not a technical decision, but personal preference.

Hello,
As a debian user, I prefer APT, I use debian since years now and the main reason is the power of package system. It gives an hight stability to the system. Regards |
With my experience i found apt more helpful in getting the results.
I started with yum but struggled as I was too much of a noob. Resultwise apt got me most of the things I wanted... cheers, Jared |
I am using APT+SYNAPTIC with FC3. It works great with RPMs. I prefer it over yum.

Do you think apt can still be improved ?
