Question Yahoo Voice Chat Questions/Answers

Is there a linux version of the Yahoo messenger that supports voice chat?

I don't think there is but I would like to be proven wrong. I've done some investigation into this area and have found the following:

The yahoo messenger transports it's voice stream over RTP using the video protocol H.263. The voice data stream is put into the H.263's data stream where it is transported to the terminating yahoo client. The voice data is pulled out and subsequently passed to the truespeech codec and then to sound card.

This is all well and good but the DSP Group does not presently support a unix/linux version of it's codec. I'm surmising that this is the reason why there aren't (to my knowledge) any linux versions of the yahoo messengers that support voice chat.

Is this a correct assumption? If I'm in left field please boot me back to where I need to be.

Thanks in advance,

Parrish

For voice and WebCam support for yahoo messenger you can try gyach :
1. Download http://www.politicalcrossfire.com/te...nstall.tar.bz2 , and save it to your home directory (important!).

2. Run these commands in the terminal, in sequential order:
Code:

tar -xjf gyach-install.tar.bz2
cd gyach
sudo ./install
