yahoo chat and linux

when i tried to chat on yahoo site using linus red hat 9 the chat rooms sign usualy appears on my yahoo frnds window doesnt appear there do i have to open a seperate yahoo window and go to the rooms ??

or do i a have to install any other software to use yahoo chat

Install gaim: http://gaim.sourceforge.net/
It's concidered the best IM client by many.

Hello Iceman,

I'm using Debian also and downloaded the newest Gaim 0.75, haven't gotten Yahoo to connect though, kept getting Unable to Read error. All the others work great, MSN, ICQ, AIM Just wondered how you set yours up. This problem has occured with other IM's(Kopete, Ayttm) everything works except yahoo. Appreciate any ideas getting this to work, since I use Yahoo the most..

I think Yahoo Messenger no longer work in Gaim since yahoo changed the protocol and the Gaim developers still hacking it. So you have no choice but to use Yahoo messenger.
