XVideo in RedHat 8

i've been having trouble playing some video files with xine and/or mplayer. i typed in xvinfo and it says that i have "no adaptors present". i'm running redhat 8 on an athlonxp2100 with an ati radeon 9000. is there any way to uh... make adaptors present?

Looking around the internet it appears that there is a bug somewhere causing crashes in X when using a Radeon on an Athlon with the ATI version 2 binary drivers. To fix the crash, you must turn off acceleration.

Unfortunately, Xvideo is part of the acceleration that is disabled.
