xv xvideo don't work but should

i am using slackware 9.1 and although the sis315pro video card i am using should work with XVideo it dont
dont work in xine , dont work in mplayer
xvinfo says :
X-Video Extension version 2.2
screen #0
Adaptor #0: "SIS 300/310/325 series Video Overlay"
number of ports: 1
port base: 56
operations supported: PutImage
...blah blah blah
indicating that it should work, it used to work the first time i installed slack9.1
then i reinstalled and it didn't, got new hd reinstalled on that and it still didnt
in /var/log/XFree86.0.log it says :
...
(II) Loading extension XVideo
(II) Loading extension XVideo-MotionCompensation
...
(II) Loading extension XVideo
(II) Loading extension XVideo-MotionCompensation
.
.
.
II) SIS(0): Using SiS300/310/325 series HW Xv on CRT1
(II) SIS(0): Direct rendering disabled
(WW) SIS(0): Option "EnableSiSCtrl" is not used
(==) RandR enabled
(II) Setting vga for screen 0.
(II) Initializing built-in extension MIT-SHM
(II) Initializing built-in extension XInputExtension
(II) Initializing built-in extension XTEST
(II) Initializing built-in extension XKEYBOARD
(II) Initializing built-in extension LBX
(II) Initializing built-in extension XC-APPGROUP
(II) Initializing built-in extension SECURITY
(II) Initializing built-in extension XINERAMA
(II) Initializing built-in extension XFree86-Bigfont
(II) Initializing built-in extension RENDER
(II) Initializing built-in extension RANDR
... .
don't know why it says it twice, don't know why its not initialized there with the other things
or even if it should be
so any information about what where how to fix this would be appreciated

hmm, can't see anythign off really. does x11 output work? mplayer file.avi -vo x11. i'd guess it's a problem with file itself, as mplayer does say somethign along those lines.
