I like to turn off my monitor off at night, before i go to bed. Is it possible to manually activate the screensaver without locking the screen? I can instantly activate it if i go to lock screen but if i just want the screensaver to go on, i have to wait the five minutes for the screensaver to activate. So, the bottom line is, is it possible to instantly activate the screensaver, via a command or something similar?
Krock , Geeman is right , all you have to do is to type xscreensaver & .
Apaert from that you can set the screen saver to start after any minutes of inactivity , from one to hours by simply going into the screen saver configurator and setting it .
For example:
I can start or stop it with the gui tool: xscreensaver -demo
I could activate it with the command: xscreensaver-command -activate
I could restart it with the command: xscreensaver-command -restart
