xsane Information dialogs - how to turn them off

I am running xsane 0.996 on Ubuntu 10.04 using a Brother MFC 240c multifunction device. It works well and I have been very pleased EXCEPT for one issue.

If I am set to use the flat bed capabilities of the scanner (one page at a time, manually loaded) I create a multi-page project with the number of pages set to match what I am planner to scan - or a little higher - does not seem to matter. I scan the first page by pressing Scan on the main xsane window. When the scan is complete I get an Information dialog telling me "Scanned pages: 0". Not real useful - I know from the sound of the scanner that it is finished. But that is not the real issue. I can scan the second page without closing the Information dialog and I get ANOTHER Information dialog. This happens with each page scanned. And the Information dialog windows are modal. I cannot close the xsane application without closing each and every Information dialog first.

I do not find anything in the xsane preferences to turn off the Information dialogs. Nor do I find anything in the documentation. Can anyone tell me a way to eliminate these useless and cumbersome Information dialogs?

Well yes, I can answer my own question... I decided to set xsane to use the document feeder so I could describe what happens with respect to the Information dialogs. As I was looking at the xsane settings I wondered what would happen if I set the number of pages to 0? I tried but xsane set the number to 1. I did a flat bed scan and hooray! no Information dialog. Same if xsane is set to use the document feeder.

So, bottom line - set the number of pages to 1 for a multi-page project and you will not be bothered with Information dialogs.

Ken

p.s. I guess I will look at filing a bug report on the Information dialog displaying incorrect information.

Can I un-SOLVED a thread? I just began to scan some batches of 2010 receipts for my end of year archive. I had the page count set to 1. And the darned program scanned the batch of about 15 pages AND ONLY SAVED THE FIRST PAGE! So I am back to the worthless "Scanned pages" 0" dialogs popping up.

Ken

Well I just learned that I can un-SOLVED a thread

I guess you could always edit the source, or use some other program.

For all I know it is due to something else which Canonical has "fixed" in Ubuntu. Icons on the desktop now step on top of each other when I download or otherwise save a file to the desktop. This was a problem initially with 10.04 then it went away. Now it is back. Also my problems with suspend logging me out instead of just suspending are much more common again. So much for stability in Linux

Good point. Perhaps I need to try another distro.
