Xsane and my envy 5530 not detected
1 Attachment(s)
First I can print fine but I think the port the printer is on is wrong :9100?
I setup xsane with hp-setup since this is a wireless printer but the system can not find it by USB to configure it. I installed xsane a while back and I got it to scan today however it can not find the scanner. Attached txt file output of Hp-check. I have read to much on the web and I am confused how to fix this. this is my first wireless printer I am going to bed I will check back in the morning Thanks |
Going by your 'hp-check' output, the HP scanner hpaio backend requires that the printer is configured using HPLIP and relies on having a correctly defined printer URI
Code:
Printer Waiting for printer to finish.eries is idle. enabled since Thu 10 Mar 2016 09:17:19 PM EST Code:
Device URI: socket://192.168.0.15:9100 Code:
hp:/net/.... Code:
sudo hp-setup https://jmatthewturner.wordpress.com...on-linux-mint/ |
My HP printer/scanner (DJ 3522, a Walmart special) will print wirelessly but won't scan wirelessly. To scan, I point my browser to the printer's IP address and use the printer's web interface to scan.

I was in the process of hp-setup and my printer decided to loose connection fixed that. now I have this error below. I tried again Now it cannot even detect the printer as it did before.
Code:
Error: "/var/tmp/kdecache-main" is owned by uid 1000 instead of uid 0. |
Well I did hp-plugin -i and the plugin installed I did a search with the Hplip. seems to be bugs about this. so I will get it to print if that is possible now since setup con not detect printer now. This is why I can never use Linux as a primary OS I will use it as a secondary.

Here is the thing I can use the add printer in the settings and it finds the printer and I installed it and it can print. If i use hp-setup it fails to detect it. Think the hplip does not support this version of Ubunbtu. I need to loo at maybe update hplip version. but no scanning software can detect it.
Here is the printer dnssd://HP%20ENVY%205530%20series%20%5B614B15%5D._ipp._tcp.local/ other wise it would use 9100 again |

Have you tried Simple Scan? https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/applicat...e/simple-scan/ |

Your printer also does Scan-to-Email, which I personally prefer. Have you thought about setting this up? |

This HPLIP Troubleshooting Guide specifically mentions which ports need to be open for HPLIP to work... Quote:

BTW, the 'hp-makeuri' utility can be used to generate the required printer URI (for HPLIP printing), but again it will need the firewall disabled or the appropriate ports open first Code:
hp-makeuri |

Thanks for the replies I will have to study these links. I have tired simple scan and it does not detect the scanner. I will Look into the option suggested. I have not used Linux in many years last I use it was whne Ubuntu 6.06 so I am rusty. And things have changed alot.
My plan is ditch windows and and use mac as my primary and a Linux distro as my second OS. But this going to be a a few years process due to software I have to use in windows. Once I get this figured out I can install and configure this in any distro. My issue is a m vary OCD and have to step back from a problem or I will not rest till I fix it. |
Solved
Ok Here is what I have found discovered
Xsane with find the scanner and I can scan if I have it connected via USB as will the default scan software. I was using HPtoolbox and an USB cable to configure the printer for the wireless connection just now. this is the only way I can get it detected by hptoolbox. If a set it up with the add printer in the settings hp-toolbox complains that it is not configured using hplip. I noticed that once the configuration gets to the last part with the USB connected on the laptop the printer disconnects and I watched it disconnect twice from the wireless while the kubuntu tries to configure the wireless connection. if I stop it or it fails to find the printer the printer reconnects oook. Typing the below code give back error state device not found so I cannot get a Ip address. I know what the address is 192.168.0.15. I configure it as 192.168.0.15:9100. It will not scan on wireless but right now this is not important. Code:
hp-makeuri IP-ADDRESS |
Still solved Update for reference
Think Updating the hplip to a new version would help this issue. I helped a friend install PclinuxOS and it uses 3.14.10 had no issues with setting up the printer and xsane found the printer without any CL action. He can scan wireless to my printer we tested it. Guess what I did :) I had another HDD used it for PclinuxOS 2016 and I had the same experience. Think the newest version is 3-16-xx not need for PclinixOS. I think if you completely remove and install a new version than 3.14.3 in Ubuntu 14.04 issues may be corrected. The main issue is the URl for the printer if you perform this setup make sure your IP for the printer is something like this below. For some reason the Current Hplip version in ubuntu can not create a URl. Only install the Hp-plugin with CL if needed. Code:
hp:/net/ENVY_5530_series?ip=192.168.0.0 |
