exit your current window manager and run the command again to load the xpde window manager.

the key combination is ctrl + alt + backspace

also.. when you get it to run can you let me know how it is? iv been watching it for a year or 2 now, but never tried it

I've got xpde installed in my gentoo box
in the wm list, xpde does not appear
only kde, twn appears
nothing else seems to do...
I'm going to vacations and one @offtopic@ user is going to use my PC
I don't whant him to know whick OS I'm using
I've tried to start xpde with this command
#X | xpde -display :0
it works just fine with fluxbox
a command: X | fluxbox -display :0 - start flux on the first X display
X :1 | fluxbox -display :1 - start flux on the second X display
but it doesn't work with xpde - X starts fine and that's it - DE doesn't start

HELP

DONE!!!My Distro is Gentoo
found here http://www.xpde.com/forums/viewtopic...68b4717c1ae08b
I've created a text file /usr/share/xsessions/XPde.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Type=XSession
Exec=/opt/xpde/bin/startxpde
Name=XPde
Comment=The XPde Desktop Environment

For RedHat it should look like this
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Type=XSession
Exec=/usr/share/xpde/bin/startxpde
Name=XPde
Comment=The XPde Desktop Environment

Any way you should point Exec= to your startxpde file
BUT that peace of junk_code is NOT useable at all !!!
All it does good is start! it starts faster then KDE, almost as fast as fluxbox
it does not recodnise installed software, it does NOT edit it's own menu (see for your self /opt/xpde/share/defaultdesktop/Start Menu/Programs/)
Window's titles do NOT have contex menu, the only icon is working "from box" - command_prompt - it starts xterm BUT the whole XPde crushes when I tried to start any X-application (firefox, kmail, konsole, etc.)
My conclusion - if you are not a developer/UNIX_GURU you will not be able to use XPde
If you want something to look like WinXP use IceWM+xdesk or KDE/GNOME with XP theme :-)

and its logging off autromatically after few seconds from the xpde session.
Any way to troubleshoot!!!!!!

What do you need it for? it is useless
forget about xpde use fluxbox/IceWM/WidowMaker/e17 they're much better

If You need real Desktop env. - KDE/GNOME both work FINE!
XpDe is not ready for real usage it is still being developed
