XPde Installation Woes
I'm kind of new to Linux and I've just downloaded an interesting desktop environment called XPde (www xpde com (sorry, had to get around the limit)) and thought it would make a nice addition to my mandrake 9.2 installation. I've ran the 2 shell scripts that I was instructed to do (instal.sh as root, and setup.sh as a user as instructed) and I logged out of KDE to get into XPde. At the logon screen, I couldn't find it in the list. What have I done wrong or what do I need to do?
A big thanks in advance |
ok you need to go to the theme manager and set that to be the theme
|
sorry create in your home dorectory a .xinitrc file and put in there something like
exec xpde |
|
I've just done what it said in that walkthrough (add xpde to the sessiontypes line and rename the xinitrcDEFAULT file in my home directory to .xinitrc) and when I select xpde, I end up loading IceWM. What have I done wrong or what do I need to do?

well, IIRC, xpde does make an Xclient.xpde file for you. it just doesn't add a session to your kdm dropdown list although, it does fully integrate with gdm. just make sure you're session item in your kdm dropdown list matches the extension of the Xclients file. ie... xpde (session item) = Xclients.xpde
Code:
# Switchdesk script to launch the xpde desktop |
Sorry, I found a tutorial before I read your reply. I have to agree with you, trying so hard gettign it to work was a waste of time sicne it's crap.

I got it too work. It is ok but some things just dont work. But I guess I am use to the visual of KDE that it just threw me off. Plus the fact that you have to use xterm(which I hate) but I guess it is just in the beginning stages.
