Xp / Rh8

i have been surfing the web for hours trying to figure out the answer to my problem. i have seen that many other people have had the same, or similar problems as i do.

as of now i can boot into RH8 (i am on it now) and i cant boot windows XP Pro. what i understand from reading other peoples posts and 'answers' i gather that the 'unhide partiton' grub command should fix my problem. but in adding that another problem arose

unhide (hd0, 0)

command not found

someone tell me if the syntax is right please? i have been searching for this as well, and have found several things that show the exact same thing that is stated above. grub also isnt recognizing

hide (hd0, 1)

please help

you could try creating a boot floppy for red hat 8 and then putting in your xp cd to rewrite the mbr, that way you could access both.

once that is done, you could to reinstall grub

check out this site on grub:

I don't know if I might be much help but here's a more in depth explanation of what YOWWWW was trying to say.

Check your version of grub, and check grub's website for a newer version. If there's a newer version, install it and it might fix your problem! Or, you can use your current grub and search its manual, by typing "man grub", for the hide and unhide command. I know that they do work and exist because I used them once.

Second option is to have windows XP automatically boot up but when you want Linux to boot up, you place a linux start up disk. To make the disk, you go to your kernel source and type "make bzdisk" or "make bzDisk" (can't remember). Then that disk will boot into linux when you want. Now using a windows start up disk (disk must have FDISK.EXE), you boot your pc into DOS and type "fdisk /mbr" or "fdisk -mbr" (can't remember again) and that will set it so that grub has been replaced in the master boot record (thus windows xp boots up by default) and grub will never show up again until you reinstall it!
