xorg memory usage
 
I'm not sure if Xorg is just cashing or using the memory, but check out my top output:

I've got 2Gb of RAM and another 2Gb in swap. After a couple of days, my swap is @ 1.9Gb with pretty much all memory split between the two Xorg's. Yes, computer does run VERY slow.

I'm not running anything unusual except 2 monitors:
Suse 10.3 x64 with latest updates. No XGL or any other eye candy.
C2D 1.8Ghz
Ati x1300 256Mb
2Gb ram
250Gb HD

Any suggestions welcome.

since no one else has replied I would be more concerned with beagle.

beagle loves to index..I know its not showing as a ram hogger but pls consider not using it.

2) what happens if you just reboot? I notice your has been up for awhile

1) Don't care about beagle, never used it in my life so I'll just uninstall it.
2) Restarting does bring memory usage down to reasonable levels for a day or two, but I hate restarting.

I do have the driver installed properly. I get decent frame rates in GL screensavers and glxgears.

Not yet because I didn't know about this package. I can't really try it right now because this is my work computer (I'm home) plus I recently restarted it so memory usage is ~300MB. I installed xrestop though and I'll reply with output on Monday after a day of work with heavy hitters like Firefox.

Run it in batch (more detailed) with "-m 1" and redirect stdout to a file. Do it again after some work and compare the results.
Should give you a start anyway.

I do not know about suse but in Fedora all you have to do is log out and log back in and xorg restarts.

Last time I restarted/logged off my Vista machine at home was about 2 months ago. I expect Linux to outperform that by at least 10-15 years :-)
