xorg.conf Device/Screen Options

From man(5) xorg.conf:

Quote:
Options
Various Option flags may be specified in the Screen section. Some are driver-specific and are described in the driver documentation. Others are driver-independent, and will eventually be described here.
Eventually doesn't help today. The option I am particularly interested in is the backing store. Since I can find no documentation, I can't determine the correct spelling, syntax or even the format of the option statement. I have tried several variations without success.

Is there any documentation anywhere?
If so, where?
If not, is there an initiate willing to risk the wrath of Xorg by sharing the secret incantations?

I think it only works with nvidia or ati;
Code:
Option      "backingstore" "true"
When enabled with a Nvidia card, you will find the following lines in your xorg log file /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
Code:
File: /var/log/Xorg.0.log

(**) NVIDIA(0): Option "BackingStore" "true"
(**) NVIDIA(0): Backing store enabled"
To see which extensions are loaded;

xdpyinfo

may need to be root.

Add one more to the list

Code:
Option      "backingstore" "true"
No joy.
Code:
xdpyinfo
name of display:    :0.0
version number:    11.0
vendor string:    The X.Org Foundation
vendor release number:    70101000
X.Org version: 7.1.1
...
screen #0:
  ...
  options:    backing-store NO, save-unders NO

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep acking
(==) fglrx(0): Backing store disabled
That last bit seems a little odd since I am using the debian driver, not the ati proprietary fglrx driver. Perhaps the backing store option needs to be set in the driver instead of xorg.conf. Now if I only had a clue where the driver config is...

Great sig, BTW.
