Xmule and lowid problems

HI
i just installed the xmule rpm from the PLF.Install went fine but when i connect I get tthe message that I have a low id because I am behind a firewall and port 4662 is not reachable.I am not running a firewall and the dirrections at edonkey 2000 only deal with firewalls
I am able to download somefiles but slow.Is there away to open port 4662 for xmule.?I am using MDK 9.1 Also trying to get Furthernet
another P2P app to work and it seems to have the same problem
tried gtk gnutella same thing I have limewire installed and running but i do not like it
thanks in advance for the help

Are you behind a router?

crashmeister 08-02-2003 02:46 PM

Probably your modem or your router got NAT enabled. You need to get that thing to forward the ports to the box you use.

darin3200 08-02-2003 05:20 PM

check out the emule faq and look under firewalls and routers. The linkys one works for most linkys routers.

thanks for the help
i have no router just a slow modem (usrobotics 5686E)the problem seems to be that the ports that xmule needs foe high idi are closed when i run Nmap it shows all ports are closed but four. i have furthurnet and limewire running no problem now, but i really like xmule (i have no firewall up when i try to run xmule) the
thanks again

Since this thread is already on xmule. I have it working fine but when I go into change my shared folder all there is a picture of a drive, i can check and uncheck it but nothing else. Any ideas?

crashmeister 08-03-2003 04:42 AM

Try mldonkey.I don't know if it is just me but when I tested lmule (unmaintained now) and xmule they where both buggy and slow and with a certain amount of downloads they would just crash and die.mldonkey is faster for some downloads because it also downloads from overnet and that works pretty good if the file is available there. If it is only on the edonkey network you are also dead meat. One of these days I'll check if the original emule is any faster.
BTW - I downloaded 12 gig in 6 days with mldonkey and lowid

Musikolo 08-03-2003 05:56 AM

Well, I just wanted to ask for something: I'm using xmule when I work on Linux and emule when I work on Windows and I can continue downloading the same files (resume) regardless using one or another, can I do the same with mldonkey??

Cheers mates! :D

crashmeister 08-03-2003 06:12 AM

Nah - it's possible but not practical in your situation.I did switch from xmule to mldonkey and resumed the downloads but it is a pain in the ass to do it.Basically I had to download edonkey for Linux and put all the started d/l's in there and let it rehash them. After that put them into mldonkey and recover temp. There might be an easier way.
Just curious: Do you see any difference in speed between the Windows and Linux versions?

Musikolo 08-03-2003 06:27 AM

I think that depends on the day, as somedays xmule goes faster than emule and others the way round. So, in my opinion more or less the same. The only thing works better in Windows is the graphical interface is a little bit more achieved... However I think that emule can't download from people using xmule because I've never seen that when using it.

Question: I get my system hung up when I leave xmule working alone for a long time and I'm almost sure that is xmule's fault. It seems it enters in a neverending loop in that cases. Do you have any idea why that is happenig?

crashmeister 08-03-2003 06:47 AM

Got no idea - everything went fine for me until I added some more downloads. Then it went crashing and didn't work after I got rid of all downloads either.Didn't check it out because there are just too many things that can go wrong - the WX thing and xmule itself.Where to start?
That was the reason I went back to mldonkey (and for overnet of course) - that thing never crashes.Had it running for 2 weeks nonstop one time. But there are others that are not that lucky.

thanks crashmeister i am going to give mldonkey i got x mule to work but it is so slow that i could create the media myself faster than it will Dld.I hope mldonkey is better.I will let all know what i find out

If you like jam bands(phish,Gdead, rusted root) try furthur net

Got mldonkey up and running works like a champ, Much better than the other p2p apps that i tried. Thanks for the tip crashmeister.
mldonkey seems to Dld the fastest for me on my slow modem.

crashmeister 08-04-2003 06:48 AM

Hehe - wait till you get to a point when you dl'ed all that is available on the overnet - things will slow down then.Anyway - happy it works for you.I'll check out you sound links as soon as I get debian to work with my onboard LAN chip.

erik 08-04-2003 07:25 AM

Good luck with that onboard LAN chip I have yet to get mine working right with mdk 9.1 and gigabyte 8inxp mainboard.
I have been playing with freenet some it is very slow but very private to and hard to make it work.Anyone know anything about Waste P2P ?????????????
peace out E
