XMMS Repeated noise?!?! Arrghh shut upp!!

Whenever i close XmmS down linux starts playing system noises repeatedly over and over and ive tried everything i can think of to make them stop.. thy just carry on, and on, and on even when i kill every program open. Any idea whats causing this?

that sounds like programs not being able to access /dev/dsp while xmms is playing and when xmms closes, those program's sounds that have queued up finally start playing. this is actually an faq question for amsn's msn messenger clone. i use kde, so it's solved by using aRts sound server which allows for mixing of sounds from various programs and from the system instead of queuing these requests.
