I have installed Fedora and downloaded xmms but xmms cannot be used by users other than root, if I try to use xmms as a user it plays the song TOO fast and I can't hear anything.
I have installed fedora- and have installed an mp3 plugin which installed fine. Now when I try to play a song- or album, the player whizzes through each song in about a second or less - not making any sound.
Did you fix your original problem? how did you do it?
I scrolled trough the xmms FAQ on xmms.org earlier today when I had some problems of my own with xmms. I think they mentioned something about this problem. Think it hade something to do with the permissions on the sound device.
On my installation (Fedora core2-test3)
(1) I started XMMS once (as user USERNAME). It was the original xmms that came with the distribution and had NO mp3 support.
(2) I deinstalled it, then I recompiled xmms (from xmms.org) and installed it.
(3) Now: As other user xmms was able to play mp3 files, as user USERNAME it was not (played it very fast, no/wrong sound). So I thought that this problem might have something to do with (1)
(4) I deleted /home/USERNAME/.xmms and then irestarted xmms ... now it played mp3 files.
(replace USERNAME with the name of the user that has this problem on your system)
