XMMS Pause
Is it just my system, or does XMMS take a second or two to stop playing music? It also happens when I change songs in the middle of another song (in which case the songs overlap for that second or two).
Is there any way around this, or has everyone who uses XMMS just gotten used to it? (or is it just my system?) |
You need to jump into your XMMS preferences and change the output plugin. Most probably it's set to arts. but you'll probably want it on OSS.
That's what I did to solve my XMMS lag :) |
Hmm, it was already set to OSS. So I tried setting it to arts, but that didn't work either (actually it did decrease the lag time a little).
Any suggestions? |
xmms - preferences - Options - "Use realtime priority when available"
|
What speed is your computer and what soundcard do you have?
|
I tried "Use realtime priority when available", but to no avail.
As for my system: AMD AthlonXP 2100+ 512mb pc2700 DRAM Creative Sound Blaster Audigy |
I also have a Sound Blaster Audigy. My system is similar to yours however I think Mandrake uses ALSA while RH8 is still plain OSS.
The only other thing I can suggest is installing the emu10k1 drivers yourself from here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ease_id=113326 Then at least you could discount bad driver issues. |
Alright, thanks. I'll try that out and let you know what happens.
|
I reinstalled the drivers, but nothing seems to have changed.
Any ideas? |
Ok, I figured it out...
It turns out using "Use realtime priority when available" does work, but only when I open up an instance of XMMS as root. What is the best way to make it easy for me to start XMMS with root priveleges while logged in as my user account? |
find xmms executable (probably /usr/bin/xmms) and change suid attrib.:
chmod 1777 /usr/bin/xmms This should work. Do it as root ! |
Hey all! I figured it out for sure this time! All of the application shortcuts to XMMS that I was using (the ones automatically created during the mandrake installation) actually linked to "soundwrapper xmms".
Turns out that "soundwrapper" routes the sound to the ARTS system, which overrides the preference of using OSS. I simply removed "soundwrapper" from the link, and ran it using the OSS plugin, and it works perfectly! |
dont use OSS, use other output plugins such as eSound Output Plugins 1.2.7
|
I have the same problem, I've set the use realtime priority as root, and still I get lag.
I tried to change the output plugin, but it just won't play with any other plugin other than arts. Why? Is it because my soundserver is arts? |
Can you post more details about your system please?
