I can play C.D.s just fine but can't play any wav directory's or files,XMMS shows that is is playing the songs but no sound comes out,I checked everywhere to see if something was on mute and set everything about halfway,if someone could just lead me in the right direction,I have SuSE 9.0 and I use gnome, the sound works for everything except when I try to play any files on my H.D.thanks david
This is something really simple but it may have been overlooked...
Try going to Options --> Preferences ---> Audio I/O Plugins tab. You should see a place for your Output Plugin. Make sure this is set correctly. If you are using ALSA for example, make sure you choose alsa. If you just recently installed alsa and it isn't appearing in your Output Plugin options, then try recompiling xmms.

O.K. working now, thanks, there were 2 sound cards configured because I have onboard sound and a sound card,I deleated the onboard sound and set-up the alsa with the SB 16 sound card and it works great!!! thanks again david
