XMMS no longer "supports" MP3s?
 

I got a message when trying to play an mp3 that "this version no longer supports mp3 format due to lisc. issues". That was the "jist" of it.
I thought this player was supposed to be awesome. Is there some other played that DOES support MP3s?

You're using Red Hat 9, yeah?

1. Search this forum for xmms red hat mp3 and follow any instructions, or
2. Download Fedora Core 3 because Red Hat 9 is now several years out of date and is superceded by the Fedora Project

Downloading Fedora 3 will not solve the xmms mp3 issue. Even with Fedora 3, you'll have to download and install xmms and the mp3 module independently of the Fedora upgrade / installation system.

yes it is a RH issue, this includes the FC line as its the same company doing the work. there are 3rd party extensions or codec not sure what to call them that will get you access to MP3s inside any of the RH line of systems.

BIG important note though, if you tell the computer to not bug you again and make MP3s blocked you are basically fubar unless you can get someone from RH to tell you how to reset that without reinstalling the system. so let the error keep popping up until you get the patch to get around it.

You can install apt/synaptic from freshrpms. You can then install multimedia packages such as xmms-mp3, xine, mplayer etc and all dependencies will be resolved.
