xmms, glib installing problems

(On Fedora Core 3)
This has been driving me mad, have been at it all day now...
Code:
checking for glib-config... /usr/local/bin/glib-config
checking for GLIB - version >= 1.2.2...
*** 'glib-config --version' returned 1.2.2, but GLIB (1.2.10)
*** was found! If glib-config was correct, then it is best
*** to remove the old version of GLIB. You may also be able to fix the error
*** by modifying your LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable, or by editing
*** /etc/ld.so.conf. Make sure you have run ldconfig if that is
*** required on your system.
*** If glib-config was wrong, set the environment variable GLIB_CONFIG
*** to point to the correct copy of glib-config, and remove the file config.cache
*** before re-running configure
no
configure: error: *** GLIB >= 1.2.2 not installed - please install first ***
Before I was getting error that I needed to install glib 1.2.2, and now after installing it its telling me that it recognizes glib 1.2.10 and is telling me to remove it.

How can I remove it or get it to configure? I've looked there the directories and don't see any 1.2.10.

It seems like you have two versions of glib installed on your system (one you compiled from source and another an rpm). You need to uninstall the old version but this will break some rpms. What you need to do is uninstall the one you compiled from source and get rpm packages for glib. I am sure FC3 updates includ the latest glib packages, so try doing as root,
Code:
#yum upgrade glib

I tried the yum command but it had no upgrade for it. However I reinstalled Fedora 3 and it worked.
