XMMS freezing

For some reason XMMS just simply freezes when I attempt to play an MP3, but loads up fine.

Due to this, I have to end the process to shut down the program.
If anyone has any ideas why i can't play MP3s, please let me know:
the plugin IS installed;)

If it helps, it's XMMS v.1.2.7, and I'm running OSS under Debian 3.0r0 "Woody" with KDE2.2.

Thankyou for your help,
Tom.

If you run it in a terminal (like Eterm or Xterm) by typing xmms, does it give you any error message?

If you haven't done this, go ahead and try, ie: open up a terminal, start xmms from the command line and try playing an MP3...it will probably help finding the problem.

I had the same problem with my vt8233 ac97 sound. I was using eSound with Gnome and found out that it was a conflict with the sound driver and eSound so I switched to OSS and it works just fine. Try using one of the other plugins like arts for KDE and see if that works.

Ive now tried typing xmms in Xterm and it's giving this message, then loading XMMS:

libmikmod.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Loading xmms from the Konsole and it brings up the same before loading.

Hope this helps:)

I guess you are missing the 'mikmod' file :)
Go to

http://www.mikmod.org/download.html

Its strange that u r missing this since this is a core file that comes with nearly all Linux Sound Drivers (I think so :o )

Hope that helps....
