XMMS crashes under Ubuntu Hoary when...

I have ubuntu Hoary and i want play mp3s which i download. i installed gstreamer plugins pack and RHYTHMbox plays it without a problem but when i open XMMS and open a mp3 file, it freezes and doesnt close. I have to restart the whole system. I checked its packages through synaptic but couldnt see mpeg plugin for it. i installed flac but nothing changed.

is a common problem because of mp3 support or something about my system?

"I have ubuntu Hoary" what is ubuntu Hoary? I'm not familiar with this. :-) Are you a long time Mandrake user?

not a long and experienced mandrake user but i learned lots of things. Ubuntu HOARY is a preview of the latest ubuntu release. Have the latest versions of packages and so on.

I dont have a solution for you, but some tips..

- Run xmms from a terminal to see any possible error messages (copypaste here please)
- If it freezes, kill its freezy bony ass.. (; No need for a reboot (if I understood correctly you referring to restarting thw whole system) If you arnt familiar with killing processes, clicky

- and as last, you have libmpeg123 installed, right?
