xmms can't seek

When I open certain mp3s with XMMS, I can't seek through them. When I try, it just goes to the next track. It also displays a ridiculous track length (in thousands of minutes). Has anyone had a problem like this?

BTW, I'm running Gentoo Linux 2.6.16 on an AMD 64 and XMMS 1.2.10.

It's happened to me loads of times. I think it's just down to the encoder used or perhaps a particular option in the encode that xmms doesn't recognize.

Well, it lookws like xmms is decoding mp3s using libmpg123, but I don't know if the problem is with the codec or with XMMS or with their interaction. Does anyone know if there is another better codec that I should be using?

There should be a bug report about this somewhere, right? But I wouldn't know whether xmms or mpg123? Anyone know?
