xine quits on me?

I have been having trouble getting any dvd software to work with slackware 9.0 ogle doesnt even start, vlc wouldnt play a dvd at all and xine works but about half way through the movie it gets real choppy and then finally quits?
can anyone help me? thanks for any suggestions
