Xine problems with DVB and playlist
I got Xine working with DVB, and it plays DVB fine.
The only problem is that Xine crashes and I get segmentation faults
whenever I try to change the channel, either by selecting a new
channel from the playlist and clicking "play" or double clicking
something in the playlist. It also crashes when I try to stop DVB playback.
(the playlist is populated by satellite channels in channels.conf)
Now it always starts with the last channel I was watching when I push the
DVB button. (it picks up the last channel watched from ~/.xine/config
Now I can change the channels by going and editing the number of the last
channel watched in ~/.xine/config
and this works fine, but it is kind of a bum way to have to change the channels.
I am using Ubuntu Hoary Hedgehog.
Any advice? It seems like DVB playback is working good, and
the drivers are working. Just Xine is not working correctly.

You can try using dvbstream and dvbtune.

Thanks. I will also give Kvdr a try too. It looks like you can watch
dvb with it as well as record.

BTW I got Xine to work without crashing most of the time by
using the mouse scroller to select the channels.

YOu can use a command line
Code:
xine "dvb://BBC ONE"
There are other commands to run without the display (for recording for example)
Have you tried the navigation pad, or the roller wheel on you mouse to select via the OSD?
Cheers

Thanks.
Yes, I discovered the mouse wheel method. It only crashes 1 time out of about 20 when I use
the mouse wheel method to change channels.

I did not say anything about Kvdr. I suggested dvbstream and dvbtune. Neither are Kvdr. You can get them at http://sourceforge.net/projects/dvbtools/. The dvbstream and dvbtune are used to change the channel and download the guide. That is what some howto on the internet said.
Try using Video Lan Client.
Try making a playlist that represents each dvb channel in xine or vlc.
