Xine - Problems opening DVD's

Hi I just got my DVD rom to read cds but I still cannot play dvds becuase When I try I get this error.

- xine engine error -
Input plugin failed to open mrl 'dvd:/'

and

The source cant't be read.
Maybe you don't have enough rights for this, or source doesn't contain data(e.g: not disc in drive). (/dev/cdrom2)

I am using Slackware 9.1

Any help would be great TIA

Sounds like a possible codec Issue for the error: - xine engine error -
Input plugin failed to open mrl 'dvd:/'

Also check what the dvd driver is really called by the Os and see if that matches - mine is called /dev/cdrom2 but mplayer expected it to be /dev/dvd

Since you are not mounting the device you need to chmod your DVD drive in /dev/, I did 777, although that is probably a bit aggressive. Works for me anyway.

If /dev/dvd is a symlink, be sure to chmod the target.

Using chmod got some dvds to work thanks! But now some other ones still dont work they give me this error-

The source can't be read. Maybe you don't have enough rights for this, or source doesn't contain data (e.g: not disc in drive). (Error reading NAV packet.)

When I push "More..." button I find these errors-

audio_decoder: error, unkown buffer type: 01060000
audio_decoder: error, unkown buffer type: 04000000
audio_decoder: error, unkown buffer type: 02000000

any ideas why this is?

thanks for your help

does it work as root? If so then this really is a permissions issue >

No, under root I still get the same error with some dvd's.

thanks

libdvdcss. i think you may need to install that as the issues may have to do with encrypted dvds.
