Angry Xine playing frames out of order

I have installed the xine library on my Redhat 9 system and
have modified the sample code given in muxine to play back mpeg
files.
It all seemed to work fine.
Then I recorded and played back a ticking clock - the recording is
OK ( I have to admit that it plays perfectly under windoze ).
When I play it back with xine the second hand of the clock flicks
BACKWARDS about once every 5 or 6 seconds!
Also fast hrizontal movements - a swinging pedalum for instance
breaks up badly.

Any Xine buffs out there with some ideas???

Try changing the video driver from the "settings". SDL and XV usually work fine.

Thanks for that.
I should nhave mentioned that I have tried all the drivers listed in the xine --help
screen
aadxr3 dxr3 vidixfb vidix and fb - result in xine ending immediately
xv and SDL results in blue screen ( for duration of the video - I think)
none black screen as above
xshm - works with noted problems
