Red face xine player troubles

Hi all

I have been trying to get the xine player to work on red hat 9 for a whole day, but i guess a newbie needs a lot of help with these things.

For my issue, i have downloaded the player and ui for xine.
After initial problems, i was able to get the path right for most of the things required, however, i am not able to get aalib to work.
I tried locate and that didn't find aalib at all so i downloaded aalib rpm and installed the rpm.
After installation and updatedb i still can not find it.
Other thing is libpng.
Now that i try to locate it, it has two libpng's and i tried to add path to conf file, but it still would not look at any one of those png's.

a little help in fixing that will be more than welcome.

You have installed aalib? I assume you are installing xine from source. If you have installed aalib, then I suggest you try the ./configure step again. This will tell you if it can find aalib. If not, try uninstalling the rpm and installing aalib from source. Then when it's all done run aaxine <filename>.
Aalib ins't really necessary for xine - it just allows you to play films in the console which is an amusing toy for 5 minutes, bu it soon gets tiresome, since you have to sit about 20 feet away from the screen to see it properly.
When you say you added the path to the conf file, do you mean /etc/ld.so.conf? If so did you run ldconfig afterwards?
Hope this helps
Guy
