Hello ,
i installed mandriva 2007 beta about a month ago ,beforethat i had mandriva 2006 beta , in the older one i could run wmv3 files using mplayer but not using xine (in xine only sound), xine played .rm and .ram ,mplayer was not able playing .ram files but played .rm files ,all that ofcourse after having the all* package of codecs ... now my mplayer does not play .rm neither .ram and xine still play wmv3 with out image (only sound ,and after asking whether i want to play back any way), i want to solve this problem and stop jumping from one player to another all the time ... after putting the codecs in the proper place i uninstalled the mplayer and after that installed it from the software package manager ..! should i modify any relevent configuration file?? here is the out put of mplayer trying play .rm file ..! thanks in advance , m-s |
Where did you put the codecs. Its looking for them in /usr/lib/win32. I remember having issues like this with mandriva and real media. Awhile back Mandriva rpms would install one place and Reals rpm would install elsewhere. I ended up using Reals rpm.You can edit your xine mplayer configs to point to where the codecs are. Or just install real player package from another source to play your .rm files.I know its not an answer but this is why I dropped mandriva in the first place just to buggy..

well ,
i do have realplayer , i put them in /usr/lib/win32 and in /usr/lib/codecs and /usr/local/lib/codecs ... i am just long time using mandriva and have no time to check out other distros ...! thanks , m-s |
Hello ,
any suggestions ??? Thanks , |
Never used them but mplayer has a codec bundle you can find here http://www2.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html you may have all the codecs installed however all your programs are looking for them somewhere else. This may solve the problem with mplayer however for xine and others your gonna have to play around with the configurations.

just wanted to add
had the same problem trying to play mkv (matroska) files and I found this post some where in google.
this is what eventually helped me on my fc6 using mplayer. get the codecs from here http://www1.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/rel...061022.tar.bz2 I've doenloaded the codecs from this link and copied them to /usr/lib/codecs/ this didn't solved it yet and I got some permission errors Error: /usr/lib/codecs/drvc.so: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied so I also copied them to /usr/local/lib/win32/ (but i think you can skip this step. again same permission error . I found in google that the problem is with SELinux blocking the ability to run dll running the following command made every thing to work chcon -t texrel_shlib_t /usr/lib/codecs/*.so you can check this site for the solution http://www.ittvis.com/services/techtip.asp?ttid=3092 I'm posting here part of my error for the sake of google searchers. hope this helps N0 Opening video decoder: [realvid] RealVideo decoder Error: /usr/lib/codecs/drvc.so: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied Win32 LoadLibrary failed to load: drvc.so, /usr/lib/codecs/drvc.so, /usr/lib/win32/drvc.so, /usr/local/lib/win32/drvc.so Error loading dll ERROR: Could not open required DirectShow codec drvc.so. Hello ,
well , the mplayer i have and the mplayer-plugin and gmplayer i installed from the software manager , so what i did is to remove them from the system and installing mplayer manually from the source ,i didn't succeeded the configure with --enable-gui due to missing firefox development tools but i did succeeded with out the -enable-gui flag and then mplayer starts running .rm files but no .ram ...!!! is there a package called firefix-devel-**** because what i found in the net after googling for it is that there is no such thing ... so if i am wrong and there is someone who knows how to find it (where), please let me know ... ! thanks , m-s |
Hello ,
any suggestions ?? thanks , |
Hello ,
this whole issue is driving me crasy ..! after i downloaded mplayer manually from source ,trying installing the mplayer plugin from package manager ,i get bad package signature ...?! is this what linux is ?? is this what mandriva is ?? or it's me ?? m-s, Thanks, |
sorry I can't be more helpfull
are you a newbee ?
you seem to have a lot of posts. I'm using fc6 so I'm not sure about mandriva. what I know is that redhat change alot of stuff, and some times I find it really hard to compile the source It's usally better to install from rpm or if you have yum (not sure about mandriva ) I find it the most convinient way to install stuff. I'm not sure what your trying to do , if you install it from source you don't need to use the package manager. but I think it will be best if you complitly remove all mplayer packages and reinstall them from rpm or yum. if thins doesn't work try the source but past the errors here if you don't succeed . I can describe my linux vs windows experiance so far as - being pain in the ass to install , but after that you have amazingly relaxed daily use . windows is amazingly easy to install , but after that its just one pain in the ass after another . |
well ,
Hello ,
the problem is that i managed to install the mplayer from source ,and know when i try to install the plugin from software manager it failes and give package with bad signature ,so i thought to uninstall the manually compiled mplayer and try again after that but with no use ... so even uninstalling mplayer and reinstalling it from mandriva software manager i am not able to ...! thanks , p.s no i am not a newbie ,but even if you are expert such things will drive you mad ..! |
