Xine locks up system
the last few times i have used Xine, it totally locked up my system, forcing me to use the reset button to recover. I just updated it to a new CVS version today, but am somewhat afraid to use it. I can use Kaffeine and it works fine, leading me to believe that the library file is fine. I am using Suse 9.1 Pro. Is there some way i can find out what exactly is causing the lock ups? My Suse 9.2 pro should be here in a few days, at which point i will be performing a clean install anyway, but i still would like to learn troubleshooting measures in case something happens again.

hi there

u can either run xine from the shell to see what error u are getting
or check out /var/log/messages for more

i was having problems with xine-ui 0.99.2 locking up my system. try to downgrade xine-ui to like 0.9.23 or 0.99.1 ( i like 0.9.23 better myself).

Are you sure your not running out of memory when you playback - I had a similar problem and it would trash my h/d.

Also make sure that you do not play weird encoded files it may easily crash Xine and also MPlayer, try another file in a standard xvid, divx, or wmv format.

hi, guys. Definitely not a memory issue. I have been running this system with Linux since January, and it just started happening. And it does it regardless of the file format. Even while playing a dvd! But Kaffeine or any other media player will work just fine. I will check the log as suggested above and see what i can come up with.I can also try running from console, but when it freezes, it is a hard freeze.. It may not even complete the error message...

I'll check the log and see if it has anything of interest.

OKay, that's one heck of a log file! I can't find anything specific regarding Xine. I guess i can just use Kaffeine, and like i said, i'm doing a clean install of 9.2 in a few days anyway.

Thanks for helping,
