xine is suuuuuuuuuperrrr S L O W. . .
m just wonderin' i have the right plugins and what soever... also i have installed d nvidia driver of my GF 2 MX400 vcard.. still y when m playing vcd in xine.. the motion is supperr slow... ? ? ? and also.. after pressing the eject button on xine's interface, still the light on my cdrom still moves on? ? :(
please help.. newbie here... |
What about the rest of your hardware such as processor speed and amount of RAM - they can seriously impact on DVD playback. PII300-400Mhz with 128Mb is recommended at the least for movies, but you might be able to get around with a decent DVD playback card. Also, do you have any other apps or services running in the background?

if xine is suuuuuuuuuperrrr S L O W, might there be waaaaaaaaaayyy to F E W RAM on the machine? Perhaps you are using swapspace, which makes buffering frames tremendously slower than when using soft storage.

Xine may not fully compatible with your system.
Switch to mplayer and pray. Find another cdrom driver may solve the poblem (but I don't think one is exist). PS: By the way guy, this is a outsied linux questions: How do you think of Nguyễn Hồng Minh (Vietnamese sport chief) about Manila SEA Games?? Email me your answer, don't post it here. |
ei iv email you bout ur xtra question.. got it? ")
wait.. meaning xine is not compatible with slack 10.2? nvdia GF2 MX 400 card? ? really ? :( |
Your graphics card should be okay, though a little old, which raises the question about what the rest of your hardware like. It's your hardware overall that could cause a problem. Slackware 10.2 isn't the issue. Please list:
|
processor - p4 1.8ghz
ram - 256 ddr 266ghz x - kde 3.4 |
run xine-check and see what it tells you.

I have 512mb ddr and under normal operation kde uses 220mb It wouldn't hurt to add some more or try another gui.
|
u think its only in the memory? ? ? :( or its because im using kde? ? hmm if that's the case... kde is not advisable for personal use?

Kde and gnome use alot of memory there are other gui's that run on minimal memory may want to try one of them. Your processor is fast enough you just lack the memory. Also out of curiosity try running glxgears in a console and posting back what it gives you.
|
There's a small chance the problem may lay with your video card (e.g drivers not correctly installed) but do run xine-check and post any questions that might raise. It'll make sure the necessary libs and codecs are installed, check dma settings, suggest hdparm tweaks and whatnot.

In my own experience, xine is so much slower than mplayer.
Since I enable direct rendering in mplayer, it run smoothly, xine don't give me chance to enable this option |
