Xine installation problem

I try to type "./configure ",but there pop up an error: conditional "HAVE_XV" was never defined.
Just as a thread sayed:(Sorry,I don't have the right to include a URL)
My system is RedHat 9.0, I've found a faq:"xinehq.de/index.php/faq#AEN153". Unfortunately,
I couldn't find the files: "/usr/X11R6/lib/libXv.a " and " /usr/X11R6/lib/libXv.so " it refers to.
(I'v installed all packages it says, but it doesn't work)
Notes:My xine packages are "xine-lib-1.0.tar.gz" and "xine-ui-0.99.3.tar.gz".
What should I do ?

hi there,

using a rpm based distro why are you trying to install it from the scratch?
do you need special compilation parameters?
i don't see the necessity to compile xine.
i don't know what your compilation problem is, but if you want to use xine in RedHat,
i am sure you can find somewhere a safe rpm to install.

There are some good xine rpms available from xine nightly builds page.

i also had terrible troubles installing xine last night. i think i have it half installed now. today i found your message about the rpm. do i have to deinstall this half-installed xine (and how do i do that?)? or can i just install the rpm over the other one?

greetings,
burkie

it shouldn't be necessary to delete what you have "half installed", just use the SuSE rpm package. In case you want to get rid of the old data to save some hard disk, look for an install.log in your source directory and delete the included files. But I am not sure if there could be some files among them which you need for other applications.

The rpms on the site I mentioned in my previous post work on any rpm based distro. I don't think you need to worry about the previous xine version, but you can try to do "make uninstall" as root from the directory you compiled and installed from. Once thats done, you can then install the rpm version.
