xine installation: no package "libavcodec" found while ./configure

Dear Sir/Mam,

Now,I am trying to install xine-lib on my PC. But this error message came out .
Code:
./configure

No package 'libavcodec' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables FFMPEG_CFLAGS
and FFMPEG_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.
And I had installed Mplayer(through tarball) on my computer already, and under its' source directory libavcodec exist. Then I
Code:
export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/somewhere/directory_of_libavcodec/:$PKG_CONFIG_PATH
.But it couldn't work still . Could you give me any suggestions?
Thank you in advance !

Which distro are you running? You might not need to build anything from source, it could be available from repositories via your distro's package manager.
