I have opensuse 10.3
I recently downloaded xinelib in a tarball.
When i ran ./configure everything went fine but at the end I got a message that i dont have Xfree86 and that i wont be able to run any X11 window application. I ignored it and proceeded by installing xine-ui
The problem is that on running xine the splash screen of xine appears and then everything closes.
Other music players using the XINE engine (AMAROK) are working fine.

My other question is that in open suse I am not able to play VCDs in VLC Player.

Though the VCD's mount fine I am not able to copy the AVSEQ files into my system. I get an error message.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You probably needed to install xorg-x11-libX11-devel before compiling xine lib and xineui. Also take a look at this thread.
