XINE & Mplayer are not playing DAT files

I've RedHat 9. Mplayer and Xine are installed.
whenever i play a DAT file saved on my hard disk the following errors are coming -

1) with XINE.
There is no demuxer plugin available to handle 'avseq01.dat'.
Usually this means that the file format was not recognized.
&
2) with Mplayer.
Error opening/initializing the selected video_out(-vo) device.

these DAT files are palying fine by Windows Media Player in XP.
when i insert a VCD the XINE plays it. but still Mplayer is not playing any VCD. it is giving the same problem written above.

help me. thanks.

I suggest reading MPlayers man-page and
trying to figure out which -vo would be
suitable on your machine...

As for the DAT, sorry, I've never come
across one of those.

Cheers,
Tink
