Ximian rpm problem.

Hey all,

I just started working with linux and installed Ximian desktop 2 for Novell Compatiblity, but i have a problem now.
When i try to install a rpm package i get the following error message.

"Nautilus has no installed viewer capable of displaying the_file_name_here.rpm"

if i try to install it thru the terminal i get this message:

(for example the gorilla icons)

[berend@GFX Downloads]$ rpm -ivh gnome-icon-theme-gorilla-1.0-alt2.src.rpm
warning: gnome-icon-theme-gorilla-1.0-alt2.src.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID c978f357
error: cannot create %sourcedir /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES

so i can install any rpm package atm :S

plz can someone help me?

thnx in advance..

Normally you have to be root to install rpm's.

At a console, type:
Code:
su (root password)
rpm -ivh <package_name>.rpm
That should install ok. In the case of src.rpm files, an additional step is required:
Code:
rpm --rebuild <package_name>.src.rpm
The last few lines of the output should indicate where the compiled rpm file is. BUT, make sure you have the kernel sources installed first or the --rebuild command won't work. Don't worry about the missing signature too much.

HTH
